I am driven by a passion to process colour within my art, to provoke a reaction from the viewer and achieve a balance of life’s inspiration with reality. Starting with a sweeping wash of various colours my imagination gets to work. Orange skies, purple/pink water, black outlined images create a scene that is questionable but brings a sense of discovery.

My implements vary from brushes, sponges, to fingers. How the colour has reacted to the surface enables me to see if it can become a seascape, landscape, cityscape, figurative or floral artwork.  I might daub paint on to create flowers, use simplistic lines to emphasise structures or fingerprint. Imagine a fingerprint becoming a series and even a book – watch this space!

A theme of ‘re-use’ is tangible throughout my work, from painting on paper, canvas, board, wood, tiles, blinds, murals and reverse painting. I never cease to experiment, and I am continually inspired by my surroundings - as long as the colour is prominent I am adept at conjuring images that provoke a sensation.

Many of my influences arrive from Eastern European (Croatian) naïve artists, and Western European impressionists, especially Vincent Van Gogh, whose use of colour and form has symbolic and expressive values I share. He once said ‘Too much detail wipes out the dream’,  to this end I agree as my work stems from my simplistic approach to capturing the dream.
